Dennis Stroughmatt & Creole Stomp

creolestomp.com

A Cajun Creole Honkytonk Party! Creole Stomp has captured the ears and the feet of Louisiana music fans across North America. Led by French-speaking Creole fiddler and accordionist Dennis Stroughmatt, Creole Stomp keeps listeners enthralled and dancers moving on the floor with a rollicking mix of contemporary blues, swamp pop, and traditional Cajun and zydeco dance tunes.

Creole Stomp shows have become legendary for the heart and passion conveyed from the stage—music with emotion and energy that literally jumps from the band. In fact, over the years the band has become informally known as “The Grateful Dead of Creole Music,” for their well-oiled, dancer-driven, crowd-pleasing marathon jams and improvisation. Traditional Louisiana Cajun two-steps, reels, and waltzes sizzle in the stew along with Creole blues and mazurkas.

A favorite on the Cajun-zydeco dance circuit, the band has also become a celebrated fixture at venues around the United States, ranging from park concerts and theaters to folk and blues festivals. No matter the venue, wherever they come from, and wherever they go, Creole Stomp is a band that knows how to throw a Louisiana party!

What grew out of his Louisiana bayou experience, in 2002 Dennis Stroughmatt along with Robert Russell, created the foundation of what has become the premiere Cajun-Zydeco band in the midwest. They continue to carry the torch...along with new members including Greg Bigler and Doug Hawf...bringing the Louisiana bayou straight to your festival, dance or concert hall.

CELEBRATING 27 YEARS of Lets Zydeco

Nathan & the Zydeco Cha-Chas

Ain't Nothing But a Party

www.zydecochachas.com

Nathan Williams' blend of zydeco follows the bluesy tradition started by Clifton Chenier. His R & B infected grooves reflect an easy going danceability that has made his versions of "Steady Rock" and "Your Mama Don't Know" hits in South Louisiana. Nathan & his band are simply one of the best zydeco groups playing today, matching superb musicianship and clever songs with a knack for keeping dancers on the floor. Nathan's compositions offer a rich experience for listeners as well as dancers, often incorporating touches of reggae, R & B, and rock.

WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING "Williams pushes the simple, R&B-infected music into near pop perfection by placing strong melodies over the classic syncopated rhythms. As a songwriter Williams cannot be beat." Boston Globe, Clea Simon

"One of the nation's premier dance bands. Where younger zydeco stars music pumps his swings." - Blues Rag, Joan Keenan

"Tooting saxophones, chicken scratch on the rubboard and zesty guitar licks that would make Snooks Eaglin proud. Hotter than Tobasco sauce on a crawdad."- Syracuse New Times, Allen Czelusniak

DWIGHT CARRIER & BLACK CAT ZYDECO

"When the Black Cat's in Town ... EVERYONE Party Down"

A Tribute Show to Roy Carrier

website: http://www.blackcatzydecomusic.com

https://youtu.be/EOiolei4E0s

Keeping the Carrier Tradition alive .... Dwight Carrier, nephew of well known Roy Carrier, is bringing his traditional Louisiana Zydeco music to Connollys for our tribute show to Roy Carrier.   Dwight has been playing zydeco pretty much his whole life ..... it's been quite a while since he has been to NYC .. but we are welcoming him with open arms, He deserves to be in our 25th year roster ... and especially so since we had Roy Carrier for so many, many years as one of our main musicians and friends.  Hope you will all come out and support this band that is trying to keep the legacy alive.

Dwight Carrier, popularly known as "The Black Cat" is deeply rooted in the "Carrier" family tradition, where music has always been a passion and was implemented in much of the family pastimes. Dwight has always had a unique style that infuses his zydeco, blues, country and R&B influences. Growing up in Church Point, Louisiana, Dwight was surrounded by musical influences.

In 1991,he was asked to join the Creole Zydeco Snap Band, headed by Creole and Blues musician Warren Ceasar. Dwight became the group's accordionist and traveled extensively around the world for several years, including multiple appearances at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. On the 1995 CD "The Crowd Pleaser" with Warren Ceasar and the Creole Zydeco Snap Band, Dwight released two more recordings, "Zydeco Coteau (Going Down South)" and "Zydeco Shuffle".

BUNKHOUSE BOYS

Cajun Music from the heart with a Creole Edge

www.bunkhouseboys.com

Clip: https://youtu.be/t8y-DPlQj8g

Blurring the lines between “traditional” Cajun music, Creole styles, and Zydeco, the Bunkhouse Boys are winning over dancers everywhere they play. Expect beautiful waltzes, richly textured two-steps, French lyrics sung from the heart, and dense rhythms that hearken back to the roots of Southwest Louisiana music.

Says band leader Laren Droll…
“Cajun music became my infatuation some 30 years ago. It made a musician of me, and I ended up playing Cajun music with these amazing Bunkhouse Boys.”

Bunkhouse Boys are Roger Weiss on fiddle, Laren Droll on accordion, and Mark Sagar on guitar, joined by Maggie McManus on rubboard and triangle.

Nathan's compositions offer a rich experience for listeners as well as dancers, often incorporating touches of reggae, R & B, and rock.

FEUFOLLET

Beautiful Cajun Music
Louisiana's Best here in NYC

www.feufollet.net

Feufollet is Americana at it’s finest. The young and vibrant Southwest Louisiana band takes Cajun, honky-tonk, and string-band music as their starting point, and keeps an open mind about where their song craft will lead them. Feufollet proves their Cajun roots don’t define them as much as propel them forward; whispers of the swamp and its time-honored waltzes trigger a modern and broad musical imagination, one that finds equal expression in blues, old-time, country ballads, rock’n’roll, whatever, all for the sake of the song.

This band is comprised of Chris Stafford: Vocals, Accordion, Acoustic and Electric Guitars
Kelli Jones-Savoy: Vocals, Fiddle, Acoustic Guitar
Andrew Toups: Keyboards
Mike Stafford: Drums
Philippe Billeaudeaux: Bass

Above all else, the album’s signature sound comes from the vocal performances. Flipping from husky honky-tonk angel to French chanteuse, Kelli’s voice perfectly pairs with Stafford’s swamp-pop vocal stylings. As the two trade off lead and harmony parts, they hit upon some of the same magic as history’s greatest duet partners—Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, and Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

The Let's Zydeco shows are dancer friendly -- but you do not have to dance --

ZydeGroove

www.zydegroove.com

On a roll from their biggest year of gigging yet, ZydeGroove is bringing their signature country zydeco sound to Connolly's. The band led by Laren Droll on accordion has been long in the making, with roots stretching back 20 years in the Northeast Cajun/Zydeco scene. Delivering irresistible dance grooves is what this band is all about.
www.zydegroove.com
http://facebook.com/zydegroove
Bringing dynamic feats of fiddling to the ZydeGroove front line is Roger Weiss. Fiddle may be uncommon in zydeco, but ZydeGroove is an uncommon band. Guitarist Gary Graeff holds the distinction of having Cajun blood in his veins - he grew up playing in the Lafayette area and his deeply grooving rhythm gives witness to the fact. Maggie McManus on rubboard brings tour-de-force playing to the frontline, but it is her mesmerizing dancing that often garners the most attention. The all important backline is Alan Bradbury on bass and Doug Chapman on drums - both are well seasoned zydeco musicians who keep the band deeply in the pocket.
"If my near half a century of being eyebrow deep into Cajun French Music gives me any qualification, I would tell you that Laren, among many great accordion players, is one of my absolute favorites. He is one of the best and most versatile musicians left playing old time, straight and true zydeco ala Boozoo, Delton Broussard, John Delafose, etc. Laren and ZydeGroove, his assembly of many of the best players in the Northeast, will definitely put you on the dance floor." Jesse Lege

Living Blues magazine hails him as "The best living zydeco singer and accordionist."
"Complex, driving rhythms force you to dance. A powerful, soulful vocal delivery forces you to listen" .. The Chicago Defender

To his legions of fans, he's the man whose music moves them deep in their souls, and to those who love to dance he's the man who makes holes in the soles of their shoes. He is the source of the infectious, rhythmic music fueling the wild dance parties that erupt whenever he plays. He is Clayton Joseph (C.J.) Chenier, son of legendary zydeco master and pioneer, Clifton Chenier.

Carrying on the legacy of his late father, "The King of Zydeco" Clifton Chenier, C.J. has been fronting the famous Red Hot Louisiana Band for almost 2 decades, reinvigorating the genre with his exceptional musicianship. C.J. Chenier records on the Alligator Label. He has garnered several "Zydeco Album of The Year" awards, consecutive Living Blues Critics awards, and a 1997 NAIRD Indie Award.

Traditional Louisiana Cajun Music featuring
Drew Simon (from The Pine Leaf Boys), Kelli Jones-Savoy and Megan Brown

website: www.tmonde.com

T' Monde, meaning "little world" or "little people, began playing together in early 2011. All members are seasoned musicians and have played with many renowned Cajun bands including the Pine Leaf Boys, the Savoy Family band, Walter Mouton and the Scott Playboys, and Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys. Steeped in traditionalism, T'Monde plays old fashioned Cajun music ranging from the early 1900's to present day. All three musicians are talented singers, having their own distinct sound that makes the band very unique and special to see. Influenced by many different styles of folk music T' Monde brings you rocking two steps, beautiful harmonies, sorrowful waltzes, and heartfelt blues. Lil Pookie & the Zydeco Sensations

This Zydeco Sensation returns to NYC

Lil Pookie FB page

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C41_2V9Yevo

Jimmy Seraile, popularly known to the zydeco world as "LIL POOKIE" is about to play in NYC for a long anticipated show. Pookie is a "Broussard" .. one of the most musical Louisiana families ..,. His Grandfather, the late Delton Broussard, was one of the foremost early zydeco musicians. LIL POOKIE'S musical journey began in the heart of Opelousas, better known as "The Zydeco Capital of the World." He spent most of his childhood watching other musicians and sneaking into clubs to gain knowledge of what was already instilled in him. At the age of 12 he shocked the Zydeco World by entering and winning the first accordion contest at the popular "Zydeco Extravaganza."

After a short break from the Zydeco Scene, Lil Pookie is back, better than ever, with a brand new look, sound and electrifying magnitude of lyrics that will have you falling in love with his music all over again.

A talented multi-instrumentalist, Pookie will be releasing his new CD -- where he is featured on vocals, accordion, keyboards, bass guitar, drums and rubboard, with Andre Thierry on lead guitar.

Terrance Simian & the Zydeco Experience celebrates Let's Zydeco's 25 year anniversary

Cheers to Laura Selikson & Friends for their 25th year presenting the very best in Louisiana zydeco + Cajun music!

She’s got a killer line up so far for her 25th, and we’re honored to be part of this important celebration. We’ve been in the game for 35 years and performed on some of the coolest stages in NYC: Central Park fundraiser w/Dr. John, Celebrate Brooklyn (they are really good friends of the band who still present us!), Tramps, LoneStar Cafe, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center Outdoors, Midsummer Night Swing, etc. etc.

Over the years many presenters have simply stopped presenting this, dynamic + lively + joyful American black roots music genre, but Laura has kept it alive and in the hearts and heads of people who patronize her shows. Merci beaucoup to you Laura, fro TS + TZE

Everyone's talking about Let's Zydeco

In an Examiner article entitled Laura Selikson's Let's Zydeco still strong in New York after 17 years, Jim Bessman wrote:

"It's another Louisiana Saturday – night except it's at Connolly's Irish pub/restaurant just off Times Square, where it's packed tighter than crawfish in a trap at another Laura Selikson-hosted Let's Zydeco dance party. She's been bringing top South Louisiana dance bands - including BeauSoleil, The Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band, C.J. Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band, The Pine Leaf Boys, Steve Riley & The Mamou Playboys, along with newer groups like L'Angelus, Curley Taylor & Zydeco Trouble--once or twice monthly ever since January, 1993.
